We cater to nature lovers, adventurer seekers, outdoor sports enthusiasts, historians, artists, world weary travelers needing privacy and peace — and to anyone looking for some place a little bit special.
Heart Winds House was designed and built by our family using about 60% recycled and salvaged materials. During Spring, Summer and Fall, we are a "working homestead" with a small market garden, seasonal haying and limited timber harvest from our woods. During this time we offer a Homestay experience while we are still in residence. Since we are now semi-retired, at the current time there are no animals on the homestead, not even a cat or dog, so we are a good choice for people with allergies. However, there is a farm right next door with plenty of animals and the wildlife abounds around our place. During Winter, we take a break from the major chores of the homestead and the place becomes a winter wonderland for guests who want to enjoy the whole house as a vacation rental.
While we spend much of our time enjoying working around our homestead, we both continue to keep “outside” jobs. Francesca, a mosaic artist and graphic designer, is the owner of Studio Fresca and teaches art part-time at nearby Burke Mountain Academy. Dave has spent over 35 years in the aviation industry, loves to surf and has a passion for cooking. He is the owner and head chef of Hearty’s, a local catering and take out food company that operates seasonally. When not working around the homestead, or at our jobs, we love to travel and count ourselves fortunate to have visited nearly 40 countries. We enjoy hosting guests and sharing the beautiful place in which we live as much as we enjoy exploring new places and learning about different cultures.
Ideally situated on 50 lovely private acres off a country road just 5 minutes from East Burke Village, 10 minutes from Burke Mountain Resort and directly on the Kingdom Trails, Heart Winds House makes a perfect base for exploring all the region has to offer — or for hanging out and relaxing while staying close to all the action. In the middle of a sunny meadow, the custom home was site designed with large windows, a two story sunroom, wrap around front deck and a covered back porch to make the most of the the peaceful, private setting and views of all the nature and wildlife that surround it. The inside is comfortable and eclectic with a huge center chimney and two cozy wood stoves, a large living room with cathedral ceilings, gourmet country kitchen with two sinks and pantry, antique fittings and heirloom furnishings combined with quality linens, dishes, and decor makes this a great spot to "come home to”!
